In 1983, Larry Hyman, a struggling New York City dancer is hired to bring the latest, hottest disco dances to Germany. Except there were no "latest, hottest disco dances.” He made them up. Thirty-five years later, the same dancer, now named Yehuda, returns to Germany and performs a dance protest on the site of a synagogue burned down on Kristallnacht, turned into a pool party site. “Dancing Into Roses” is a true story about finding the dance you carry inside yourself: told in words, dance, comedy, outrage and tears. We just got back from our out-of-town premiere at the fabulous Gordon Community Art Center/PenArts in Pensacola, Florida (Christine Kellogg/Artistic Director) in a short run co-presented by the Pensacola Jewish Federation (PJF). The audiences responded with waves of laughter and tears. We are so grateful to PenArts & PJF.
